Cheney to Obama: ‘Reverse course’
January 7, 2010 by Michael Lockheart · 1 Comment
Cheney is calling on Obama to “reverse” course.
Not Dick Cheney, the former vice president who has been outspoken in his criticism for President Barack Obama’s handling of terrorism.
Liz Cheney, an equally outspoken daughter and now chair of “Keep America Safe.”
The president, in the aftermath of the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a U.S.-bound airliner, said this week that none of the suspected terrorists detained at the U.S. military-run prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will be returning to Yemen anytime soon. The attempted boming of the Detroit-bound plane reportedly was plotted in Yemen.
“Some have suggested that the events on Christmas Day should cause us to revisit the decision to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay,” Obama said this week. “So let me be clear. It was always our intent to transfer detainees to other countries only under conditions that provide assurances that our security is being protected.
“With respect to Yemen in particular, there’s an ongoing security situation which we have been confronting for some time, along with our Yemeni partner,” he said. “Given the unsettled situation, I’ve spoken to the attorney general and we’ve agreed that we will not be transferring additional detainees back to Yemen at this time.
“But make no mistake: We will close Guantanamo prison, which has damaged our national security interests and become a tremendous recruiting tool for al Qaeda.”
Cheney issued a statement today through her organization maintaining that “pausing the transfer of al -Qaeda terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to Yemen is insufficient to ensure the security of the United States.
“If President Obama is serious about keeping the American people safe, he should reverse his irresponsible and ill-advised decision to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility,” she said.
“He should reverse his decision to usher terrorists from Guantanamo onto U.S. soil. He should reverse his decision to bring the mastermind of 9/11, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to New York. He should reverse his decision to give KSM and other terrorists the rights of Americans and the benefit of a criminal trial in an American civilian court.
“He should immediately classify Abdulmutallab, the Christmas Day bomber, as an illegal enemy combatant, not a criminal defendant. He should inform Attorney General (Eric) Holder that he will no longer allow the Justice Department to treat terrorism as a crime instead of an act of war, nor will he allow them to investigate or prosecute CIA officials who kept us safe after 9/11, or disbar or otherwise punish the lawyers who provided the legal framework for programs that saved American lives.”
Cheney, like her father, maintains this:
“President Obama has weakened American security by treating terror as a law enforcement matter, refusing to use every tool at his disposal to prevent attacks, and taking his eye off the ball. America’s homeland security and counterterrorism systems will continue to erode in the absence of strong, consistent, unwavering presidential stewardship. It’s time for the president to make defending this nation his top priority.”
How Barack Obama Won the Presidency (Or Did He?)
December 15, 2009 by Michael Lockheart · Leave a Comment
Barack Obama won the election last year, right? Everyone knows that, right? So this poll that asks if Barack Obama actually won the election last year is about as necessary as a barrel of bacon at a vegan restaurant, right?
Right?
The poll asked this question: “Do you think that Barack Obama legitimately won the Presidential election last year, or do you think that ACORN stole it for him?” The overall top-line is legitimately won 62%, ACORN stole it 26%.
Among Republicans, however, only 27% say Obama actually won the race, with 52% an outright majority saying that ACORN stole it, and 21% are undecided.
Yep, 52% of Republicans think ACORN stole the 2008 presidential election, using nothing but their patented stupidity to secure 53% of the popular vote for Obama. Another 21% of Republicans think, well, maybe. Yeah. That certainly sounds plausible, but… hmm, who can say for sure?
After all, if there’s one thing we know about ACORN, it’s that they’re masters of getting away with illegal activity without anybody ever noticing.
