In these difficult times of financial fragility and familial insecurity, President Barack Obama is leading by example and showing the American people how they can keep money flowing into their households to provide for their families.

By re-selling remarkably successful books they already wrote years ago…

The terms of the book deal were disclosed in a Senate financial disclosure report filed Tuesday… Mr. Obama approved the $500,000 advance on Jan. 15. The advance is against royalties under a deal with Crown Publishing, a division of Random House. The project calls for an abridged version of his book “Dreams From My Father” for middle-school-aged children, according to the disclosure.

A White House aide said that the deal had been in the works for weeks and that the publisher will abridge the book. The aide, speaking on a condition of anonymity, said the publisher will get half of the money while Mr. Obama will sign off on the final version.

So, why not do the same. Dust off off that best-selling inspirational memoir of your fatherless youth and repackage it for the people who’ll be voting you back into office four years from now. It appears that you won’t even have to do the medium-heavy lifting of chopping out every third sentence and all the references to street drugs.

What are you waiting for, America? Are you just gonna let hundreds of thousands of dollars pass you by?
